tight fitting tube over the bush grease in the hole and try and wind it through with an appropriate size g clamp .balls it up ,bad language then cut it in half and have to replace them each year for mot.

you will probably have more luck with the first part than i did :)

Those bloody bushes are a real pain. I also cut the new ones in half (posted this on the forum years ago) but I do not renew them for every MOT. Had three MOT's since they were fitted at the local VOSA station with no problems. Will check them next time I am under the vehicle, though.

I dont see the problem cutting them in half?? Thats how my bushes arrived anyhow (2nd hand)

They are a bit manky though and I think I might make some polybush ones to go on before the MOT

When I fitted some to my old van I put the bushes in so hot water to soften them up first, and used a flat head screw driver to collaspe the bush into itself while using a second screw driver to pry the bush though the hole. this technique I found makes a difficult job slightly more bearable

Done quite a few of these. Ill try to explain how
You need
1 Set screw(bolt threaded all the way down) nut and washers to fit
1 socket (standard not long reach)
Suitable lubricant

The bolt
needs to be a close fit in the bore of the bush, twice the length of the bush plus the length of the socket and enough thread left exposed for the nut and washers.

Washers
1st must be smaller than the diameter of the bush
2nd is to prevent the nut disapearing down the hole in the socket were your ratchet or T bar would normaly fit

Socket
Choose one that the bush fits closely in and will also sit on the rim of the bush housing.

Lubricant
Anything to make things slippy I use swaffega or washing up liquid in preference to oil and grease on bushes as it dries up, this inproves the friction grip once in place.

Instalation
Place 1st washer on the bolt followed by the bush, lubricate the bush and housing, place bolt through housing , put socket on the other end of the bolt followed by the second washer and nut
Tighten hand tight guiding the bush into the housing to get it started. Ensure that the socket is seated on the rim of the housing then start tightening the nut down.
The bush will roll over the edge of the washer, this is normal. Tighten the nut untill the washer enters the housing and keep tightening until the bush is flush with the housing. remove the bolt. The bush is in position. Should it be to far in, just reverse the bolt and socket to pull it back out slightly.

Should you try to do this without the socket you will find that the bush will only go about 1/2 - 2/3 the way in before the metal liner in the bush is stopped by the washer and nut.

1st attempt was a failure :( i'll try again later

i think the large dia washer is too big and causing it to be a little off centre so i'll cut that down before the next go :D

Hi I'm new to this forum, does anyone know if its worth replacing the drop links when changing the anti roll bar bushes on the front of a 54 plate transit connect? also does anyone know if there are any (how to?) videos on the web?
one more question while I,m on can you buy manuals for transit connects?

Put the Kettle on...................
Get a large mug and add the bushes.
Pour on boiling water and leave for 5 - 10 minutes.
Drain and serve. Sorry that one is wrong.
The bushes will be much softer now and easier to work with.

I have done this with all sorts of bushes, works a treat.
