Leaky sump

Postby sam l » Wed May 20, 2009 4:18 pm

Hi - just got Brian through the MOT at a cost of £1100 . . . now it seems that the advisory slow oil leak is from the corroded sump and a new one (+gasket) from Ford is £243. Is that the best option given that one from a scrapper will probably be on it's way out too?

It's definitely the sump.

Sorry yes should have said 2.5DI lucas pump vac pump on alternator I think it's an 86?

I thought of epoxying the sump but it really does look pretty chuffed and I'd have a right old time getting all the oil etc off it first.

I'd never heard of them but cheers for that! Will have to tell Ford to un-order it . . .

What a price difference - only a bit of bloody metal isn't it £243 is outrageous.

Cheers

arrgh and they've got long arm mirrors (MKIII but still) for 20 quid!

You can't fit Mk3 mirrors to a Mk2, they are totally different fittings and they would look pants!

Clearly you haven't seen my van!

I'm just sick of not being able to see behind me, and proper MKII mirrors are not to be had. As it happens I'm building my own out of UTM's and pipe - which will look truly vile!!!

It's a bit cheaper - think Beevers was about £90 including gasket (pricey) and delivery.
