Rear door lock

Postby owen » Wed Jul 22, 2009 4:48 pm

I am having a problem with my rear door lock, in that i am completely unable to lock it! (van is x reg 330mwb)

My local mechanic reckons it is the rear door lock. Got a price from ford, £185

I managed to find one in a scrapyard today, but it is slightly different from mine, and doesn't fit. I can't find anything else locally, and there's nothing on ebay. Also, there's no part number to definitely identify it, so i am reluctant to buy 2nd hand parts over the internet/mail order as there's a good chance they won't be the right ones either.

Any ideas before i go to ford and bend over??

Wiring looms to rear door kink & wires break more often than latch failures (or would be thieves cut loom in aperture between van pillar & door),suggest you remove rear door trim panel & have a look.
Does it make any noise when locking or unlocking ?

my autoelectrician has already repaired the wiring once, i don't think it is that. if you turn the key, nothing happens. i don't think the key will turn far enough to do anything, it feels like something is jammed.

I didn't think MK6s had key locks on rear doors :?

I've not come across any. All the MK6s I've had have only had a key lock on the driver's door, the rest are blanks.

Some early ones have a lock barrel in rear doors (& passenger),ones without central locking have a barrel in every door.

How worn is your key, have you tried a spare ?

Do you have a remote fob,or does your van not have remote locking ?

the key is quite worn, but i have just tried the spare with no success.

yes the van has remote locking.

i have just received another lock via mail order, despite the bloke assuring me that it is the right one, it isn't - i can see no way of fitting the lock barrel into it so that turning the key actually does something :?

well i finally managed to modify the new one to fit, it works fine now thankfully. very frustrating not being able to get the right one though, why don't ford put a part number on it?? :?
