Connect Lowering

Postby mattvik30 » Fri Jul 24, 2009 5:29 pm

Can anyone who has done this in the past give me some info. I have been told that lowering springs from a Focus are used for the front? If so what year and spec of Focus are these off. Also for the rear how have people gone about lowering the rear on here? As im guessing this is just a bit of adjusting and no parts needed?

also what sort of -mm drop can be achieved on the connect as im sure that i read somewhere the xpress connect has been lowered by upto 70mm  ?

Any info would be greatly appreciated as im looking to do this asap and im sure there are probably alot more people on here thinking about doing the same at some point. Im not too keen on the huge gap between my 17's and the arches :( .

Cheers in advance! :D

for the back end, i think the old mk2 escort trick can be done. lowering blocks between the chassis and the leafsprings and then longer U bolts

as for the connect xpress, i know that was running focus rs hubs, disks etc. so im not sure if it was more modified to use the focus RS rear suspension setup.

ill have a look around for you though because i was thinking about this the other day, lol

Has anyone had any joy with this?

I think I'm sorted at the rear now but can anyone confirm if Focus springs work and if so by how much and which model?

Cheers
John.

Hiya, Just picked up my connect yesterday afternoon, it awsome although its only the 75ps model, its a lot different than my escort which I am now a little less sorry about taking off the road. just cant get used to being so high up, just wondering if you can use the lowering blocks off mark 1/2 escorts for the leafs? Cheers

Unfortunately not. The springs are on top of the axel rather than underneath. I'm making up some plates to move the beam underneath.

The trick is now to find the right springs/dampers for the front.

aha, indeed, now that was the beauty of my escort :( , Could lower that real easy, but I can see why I am seeing less and less escorts and more and more connects now I have one. Just do miss my escort but for different reasons.

ah a simular idea to lowering an escort then, only thing is i never bothered with my escort cause the gap wasn't as half as big as it is on the connect, but connect is a lot firmer. Just a question what sized alloys have people got on their connects? and how much are you looking to lower them? cause i remember being told that there was a way to adjust how low you wanted the escort to, just all depends on what you fabricated I guess.
