Did you get it open? :D

I know on occasions mine is tricky to open, if it goes in for work they cant usually open it, it's because they dont know how, there is a knack to opening it (with mine at least) the key has to be turned one direction to open, then in the oposite direction to release it, if the key is in the wrong way it wont open, taking it out & putting it back in the other way solves it, I found this a right pain but now I'm used to it it's a doddle!

I've been following this thread with interest, and am more than a bit puzzled by the outcome.

According to the Ford blurb these keys are supposed to have an inbuilt rolling transponder code (chip) facility, so are a teeny bit 'intelligent'. Otherwise what's all this business about reprogramming them from the ignition/immobiliser circuit by rotating the key nine or so times in the ignition when you obtain an alien key?

Have I got this wrong? Is it actually the remote key fob that's got the chip in it? If so, do the fob and key talk to each other each time you try to start up? What's actually going on here?

If your man just got a duplicate key cut by his local locksmith which worked, then it sounds like the Connect bonnet lock doesn't need a properly chipped key at all. If so, it's purely mechanical. It can be opened with any (Connect-type) key, or even maybe any other Ford key for all we know

I had a SWB 220 Hallmark before my present LWB 230, which came with a duplicate key & fob as part of the deal. I couldn't see any physical difference at all between the end of the key for either van, and told the dealer I wanted a freebie spare set for my new van. I got the same duplicate key set back in under a minute reprogrammed to my 230. If I'd tried this manoeuvre meself I'd have made a tit of it.

So what did they do or is all this black magic? Anybody got an explanation? :?: :?:

the locks are purely mechanical ! so if its just a normal key it could open the bonnet and doors but not start the van! as for any key opening it unfortunately there are other tools that do this ! :? also as far as im aware the key doesn't talk to the fob the fob is for the central locking and it's the key itself that has the transponder in for the immobiliser, when i got a spare fob as the old one snapped of the key ring the bloke at ford did the cycle thingy for me :)

The immobiliser\chip part of the key is only required for starting the vehicle.

Hi i have had the same problem trying to open the bonnet of my connect, turned the key to the left but bonnet will not release the nice RAC man told me to make shaw the key is fully push home into the key hole then turn left then right ,this did trick. His says the rubber weather seal at opening to the key hole some times prevents the key from fully locating so just push the key in harder and turn.

you always have to turn the key one way to release the catch and the other to allow lifting by the way :)
