Mk7 gear cable removal

Postby flyingclutchman » Wed Feb 24, 2010 8:57 pm

I'm afraid this is a bit embarrassing for me. Could anybody tell me the correct technique for removing the gearchange cables from the GEARBOX END on a MK7 RWD model. The lever end is very easy but I can't quite figure the gearbox end. I've changed dozens of Ford cables but can't figure these. Am I missing something? Thanks

5 speed, push the center button in and yank the lower cable off the arm and the top arm needs to gently prize the cable off.

6 speed, both cables have push buttons

Then to get the cable outers out of the brackets you need to pull the collars (you can just make the joint out if you look closely, just behind the grooved part of the white & black collars) towards the back of the van and then pull them out the bracket (I usually find it easier to use a small screwdriver to move the collars to start with)
I miss my 'courtesy van'............140 Glx..now a Jumbo :(
