Reconditioned engine, I need one

Postby b1jc » Tue Mar 16, 2010 9:35 pm

After a month of being off the road it's decided that my bottom end is knackered.

So far:

Fuel pump rebuilt and injectors reconditioned

Cam chain investigated, it hadn't jumped, new tensioner fitted

Compression tested, down on 2 cylinders

Head off, no.1 piston has about 10mm play up and down

This has been a nighmare, I've now taken a month off work so far, any advice for me? seems like I need a replacement engine after spending alot of money on this one.
It's a 115ps Jumbo 2005, I checked the van on etis and it comes up 2.4L Duratorq-TDCi (115PS) - Puma. Does that sound right for a 2005? I thought it was a tddi? I'm probably wrong

Can anyone recommend a reputable supplier, I have someone willing to fit the engine for me, I think my main worry is finding someone that I can hold them to their warranty

Any suggestions?

Was that for the complete engine -ancillaries or for just the block?

I just rang a few dealers and they're coming up with £1400 for just the block and £2900 for engine -ancillaries

Which main dealer supplied you with it?

Here is one off Ebay if that helps?

Might be worth having a negotiate with the dealers, if they order stuff in for stock they get it cheaper somehow? I got 25% off a pair of new front springs for my last Transit, just had to wait 3 weeks. If you are spending this sort of dough they should be up for a bit of discount, times are hard for them as well.

It was complete, admitidly it was a 90 ps But I had to fit over the Turbo, FIP,injectors ,manifolds, so basicly a head and block built up with all the sump and covers on , Part number was 1489247 and it was bought from Brunel Ford in Ashton Gate Bristol .

I actually would have pressed the buy it now, but decided to search for engine reconditioners in Richmond, I found this:

http://www.bizwiki.co.uk/car-parts/2073 ... hange-.htm

Same contact number as the ebay item

I wouldn't usually write off a company from one bad review but I think this one is scary enough to steer well clear of

Personaly I would stay well clear of any ebay bargins or ads in auto trader stating that they are engine reconditioners , People that recondition engines with good repute dont need to advertise , word of mouth is good enough .

Main dealers may be expensive , but how much are you saving at the end of the day ??If it all goes tits up you have the backing of a dealer and not some matt black aeresol can merchant

I am also after a recon engine any help will be great. I am getting quoted prices from £1500.00 to 2.5k supplied and fitted but don't know who to go with. This price inc me giving them my engine in return is well.

I have the same van 2005 115ps TDDI Jumbo. I was thinking of going second hand and selling my 1 for bits but after spending £800.00 on my 1 trying to get it to work I don't want to mess around. Any pointers will be great.

Thank you

All MK 6 115 are TDDi but etis lists them incorrectly as TDCi

I found these guys

http://www.reconditioned-engines.co.uk/ ... 4QodoTvTaw

service sounded way to good to be true and price was £1600.00 said it will be a total new rebuild from bottom up etc etc.

As they say when things sound to be good to be true it normally is.

Then I searched for their reviews
