Mk 7 EGR Valve Removal

Postby barrytaylorryan » Thu Sep 09, 2010 10:21 pm

Been a while since i needed to pick up a spanner, so could someone help me out with how to remove and clean my EGR valve. I have a Mk 7 2.2 TDCI, it smokes slightly on pull away and under a hard right foot. Ford tell me "computer says no" and cant find a fault with the van, and after reading some of the posts on here to do with this "EGR Valve", I thought i would give it a clean myself and see if it makes a different. Thanks people.

It's held on with 2 10mm bolts and 2 8mm bolts. The 8mm ones are on to a flexi pipe. There is a steel gasket on both bits.

And is it as simple as only needing a 10 and 8mm spanner or socket to get it off or does anything else need to be removed to get it?

Managed to take the EGR off yesterday and did my best to clean it out. It aint that hard to get off, even if its been while since you last touched an engine! Beacause its not that hard to take off, i took a template of both gaskets so i could make blanking plates and if i decide to do it, blank the valve off.

2 questions: do you blank the side that runs to MAF sensor or the other side of the valve or both? And what are the benifits of blanking it off?

Plus, will i get an engine management lit up on my dash?

Is the gasket for the inlet manifold a steel or paper one?

the valve itself doesnt bolt to the inlet, it goes to a steel pipe behind the inlet, and yes they are both steel :D
