Timing Belt on Connect T200 L

Postby Srobify » Mon Nov 22, 2010 10:26 pm

Hi, Im new.
Really enjoying the topics.

I have a 2006 Transit Connect T200 L,

64,000 miles,

When should the timing belt be done?

How much is the kit and what other work should be carried out at the same time.

Cheers,

Rob.

Only use cam belt kits made by Gates, used as original parts by manufactures which can be purchased from most good motor factors

agreed, i think my gates belt cost me £70 inc tensioner from my local motor factor, peace of mind at the end of the day, make sure you change the tensioner, its that thats more likely to let go than the belt

i did mine about 60k and it will get done again at 120k but thats just me, cheaper to change the belt than the engine, i don't think ford even know sometimes, some say @100k others say 150k, all a bit high if you ask me. if you don't know the history of the van or its been abused get it done now

Ye i was thinking 150k sounds VERY high!

I am of the opinion myself that it should be changed between 60k and 70k on any car or van.

don't even attempt it unless you have the locking kit, slopping tip-ex around will not do :(

I take it this tool kit would do the job? or does anyone know which specific locking pins to get?

I also found a genuine for belt and tensioner on ebay for £58.99 + £3.95 p&p

yes that locking pin kit looks like it would work but I would still go to the local motor factors and get the gates belt kit

its quite easy, engine mount off, rocker cover off, alternator off inc mounting bracket, starter motor off and time it up with the timing kit then undo tensioner and cam pulley, the belt only stretches between camshaft and the pump, with the removal of the cam pulley it acts like a vernier pulley when you tighten it all up. it took me about 3 hours to do as it was my first time on this engine and yes, these being only 8 valve engines they have a single cam
