FAULT CODE P0234 AND P1103

Postby furnitureman » Sun Nov 28, 2010 8:45 pm

Evening all, fitted a tunit box to my mk7 2.4 140 ps had it set for economy by the suppliers and it has made the van run very nice indeed good power all through the range and giving just over 38mpg sitting at 70 on the motorway half loaded (its a jumbo) no problems until i came to come off the m way and had to give it some to get out of the junction the van flew couldnt beleive the speed them engine management light came on but van still drove fantastic, when i read the codes i got P0234 engine overboorst condition and a pending code P1103 can anyone shed light on what these codes mean.

Before fitting the unit i did notice a slight fuel leak from the end of the fuel rail just before the pvr valve.

Thanks in advance

The van doesn't like the tunit box, and a fuel leak is never a good thing

I get what you are saying but what do the codes actualy mean, as for the leak we are only talking mildly damp it had a new pvr valve fitted last year before i got the van can i just nip it up.

From past experience from friends who bought similar things to yourself,Over boost is a regular occurrence with these boxes.

Do the box's adjust the turbo boost as well as it is pluged into the fuel rail i have heard realy good things about tunit they seem to be a top company with good results and customer satisfaction.

Throw it away befor your rail goes bang

All the box does is trick the ecu into thinking its got low fuel pressure, ECU then upps the flow to the rail and puts the pressure well above safe levels, hence your new fuel leak, if you carry on youl either blow the rail or the PRV

If you want economy get a proper eco map for the van,

P0234 is turbo underboost (van thinks it needs more boost for the ammount of fuel)
P1103 is MAF sensor in range but higher than expected (normal on heavily tuned vans as it needs more air to burn the fuel)

Its really not worth the risk, £80 box + 100+ fuel rail + 80 PRV = big ££££££

or just a safe map from vantuner tailored to the van for £300

ALL tuning boxes have adjustment on them which you normally have to adjust to suit your vehicle.Find the adjustment and turn it down until you no longer get the light on after caning it.Someone else cannot do this for you without it being on the vehicle.
Some users on here are very anti tuning box (although most have never seen one never mind used one)they bleat the same bin it and go to vantuner line everytime the word tuning box comes up.Yes a map is the better option in some ways, cost wise its not and i bet theres not much more than 10bhp between them.
Take it from me someone with 100,000's of miles worth of tuning box experience on many different vehicles including a 130ps mk7, theres nothing wrong with using them and not one of them users saying they cause problems will show you a link to them despite being asked to time and time again!
You probably had the diesel leak anyway which obviously needs sorting or tightening up.

Turn it down a touch and report back............

Read the posts interesting reading i ran a psi unit on my range rover with no problems at all, i have looked into the tunit box and there are a few microchips and a circuit board, when Dan at Tunit in Chorley kindly set it up for me it went onto a computer to tune it to my engine, he said they can fine tune it even more so its not a cheep £80.00 box off ebay for anyone interested in looking into tuning boxs take a look at there web site www.tunit.co.uk,

Don't want to say to much (Warranty issues) but I know someone very well on this Forum who has had a Tuning Box fitted and a proper remap....there's no comparison,,,no MIL light with a proper remap...the Power is very noticeable with a Remap and the MPG is very good...140ps Jumbo that averages 36/38 mpg day/night emtpy/loaded...
However that's just my opinion and I'm taking nothing away from fed up

Hi azer man, i know and agree with what you are saying i would love a propper remap, but somewhere on this side vantuner said even he has had the mill light comming on on some remaps i only paid £80.00 for the box they retail for over £300.00 new i need to get the fuel rail leak sorted and checking out the map sensor that was absoloutly full of crud when i got the van, again someone on this site has said he cleaned his and there was a noticable difference but nothing compared to fitting a new map senssor, i will give this box a go as i said i had a psi box on my range rover and had no problems at all,
