Number Plate Lights

Postby Dave The Barge » Mon Nov 29, 2010 6:49 pm

Hi,
My number plate lights are not working on my 05 tranny.
Bulbs o.k.
Fuse o.k.
No power to bulb holders ( did get a reading of 0.6 volts)

Any ideas ???

Thanks,I might have to give that a try.

look at the side where the hinges are there will be a black boot type thing and the wires will run through there

Hi Dodgy,
Just had a quick look but can't see anything like a boot!
There's the two hinges either side and something that I think carries cables to stop the doors opening up too far.

the black thick thing that looks like a thick cable is the wiring loom..you will find its proberbly the wire has snapped inside or has come off the plug by the rear light....remove the rear light and you can see the loom from the door and where it connects to the vans loom there is a multi plug see if you got power there as well..failing all that thread a new wire from rear light to number plate lights..

Dave
Where are you checking for power ? , I guess at the bulb holder ? They are sh*t I have replaced mine with ones from a trailer shop £3.00 apiece & I put LED's in so no more problems.

Thanks Everyone, you've all been a great help.
I won't get a chance to have a proper look 'till Friday, but when I do I'll report back on my progress.
I was wondering if the fault might be 'connected' to the trailer wiring ?? I really hope not 'cos then I'm totally knackered !!

Hi,
I had a look today and yeah Jay you were right, the black plastic thing that runs from the rear light cluster to the rear door does carry the cables to the number plate lights.
The orange/blue cable has a nick in it.
The black cable has been completely severed in two places.
I shall try to rewire both cables from the plug behind the light cluster to the number plate wiring tomorrow.
It was minus 5 out there today, (real brass monkey stuff) so wish me luck.
Will report back as soon as possible.
Cheers everyone.

That's it, job done, the number plate lights are working again.
Rewired from the plug to the number plate lights. Everything working o.k. again now.

Cheers everyone, you've been a great help.

'till next time,
Dave.
