I dont think 2 ton is right tbh mate , he needs to figure the gtw which is on a sticker in the passenger door jamb .
T260 SWB
T280 SWB
T300 MWB
are max weight for the van , it all does depend on the gross train weight. :D
i have a 350/90 and am only allowed to tow about 2150 ( i dont remember the exact gtw) it also depends on whether his trailer has brakes, if it doesnt he has no chance . I only know this because i had to ask similar questions for towing a big caravan . :D

As MB says yo need the website to check.. its the GTW that is the main factor though. it aint worth guessing mate :wink:you ned to know the weight of the loaded trailer too, then calculate it all correctly :D

A fwd is not plated heavy enough for what you want to tow, you need a RWD 330 or 350, you can get the 330 in SWB (Same as the RAC use)

My last 260 had a MAX TRAIN WEIGHT of 3500kg, the MAX GROSS WEIGHT was 2600kg, subtract 2600kg from 3500kg and you get 900kg, which is the maximum weight of trailer and load you can pull behind a loaded van

No way its 2 ton for them

Bet your dollar the JCB etc are being towed by RWD 350 /90/115/135s mate FWD aint really upto it TBH . Without the towing details from every van youre thinking of buying its guesswork mate

I :D think .... basically you deduct the gvm from the gtm and you get your braked towing capacity  Why is it you are looking at FWD in particular?

mine is GVM 3500,,,, GTM 5750 so braked towing = 2250

My 115 has a GTW of 5500 kgs = Fully loaded van at 3500kgs and a trailer and goods upto 2000 kgs

the 140 has a 6000 GTW = fully loaded van at 3500kgs and a trailer and goods upto 2500kgs

I would Never run at the limits or have a Tail wagging the Dog (heavier trailer than van).

Agreed, Probably a good idea to follow the 85% rule too
