Brake lights and fog lights blowing fuses

Postby janhsmn » Sat Mar 12, 2011 11:22 am

Hi am a bit stuck, have a 2003 mk6 LWB High Roof transit. Getting it ready for MOT and noticed that the brake and fog lights were not working. Fuse had blow in both. Replaced fuse and they kept blowing. Have checked for corrosion and is ok. Going to check the brake light pedal switch to see if that is working. What is confusing the issue is that the brake and fog lights are both blowing fuses. Are they on the same circuit.

What else should i be checking.

THanks

Remove the rear cluster and have a look, the light board may be corroded and the plug could of had a melt up

Cleaned everything up and fog lights now working.
have checked brake pedal switch with voltmeter and that seems to be fine. As soon as press brake pedal it blow fuse even without a bulb in. Not sure what to try now.

It does have a towbar, have disconnected all the wires going to that and is still blowing fuses. Have just read something about a fuel sensor wiring could cause it??

bit more information. When he pull connection out from brake pedal and puts a paper clip on to complete the circuit it blows the fuse straight away.

thanks

Will be a broken wire or maybe even a screw through the loom if it's had panelling in the back. The only thing to do is follow the loom and look for damage.
