Ah ok, if you were nearer to West London, then MartynX (Vantuner) would be able to help you :|

Hi Guys
New to this forum but found it really useful as i had the same problem with battery warning light staying on after 30 seconds or so and all the dials on the dash crashing and resetting, lights flickering and also the engine not ticking over smoothly. I did as suggested and replaced the wiring loom from the alternator (about £17.00 ish from my ford dealer) Problem solved instantly The part number is an updated one apparently 649024 4998243 it took as long as it took to remove the intercooler cover and replace the loom........10 minutes max. (04 transit connect tdi)
Thanks to this forum i saved myself a lot of expensive garage diagnostic time and labour.....and resolved the probem so a big thank you to all who posted suggestions.

Rolfe.

hi, my battery light was coming on and off for the last week, making my headlights flicker, was driving me mad as only started to happen after i fitted an after market cd player the van so i thought this was causing it!

came on here to see if anyone else had any problems and this topic was great!

fault was indeed a break in the blue cable in flexi conduit to the alternator. crimped and jobs a goodun! glad was an easy fix as not had the van long!

thanks to all who have posted on here before saved me alot of time!

strange common fault though i must say!

And another one today too!

Driving along, battery light intermittently flashing, then staying on constantly!

Quick voltage check, always got my multimeter with me, being an alarm engineer! All OK there!

And, thanks to this ACE forum, I got the info required to trace the wires from the alternator, guess what? It had all been done before at about 5", this latest damage was about 12" from the plug....

All jointed up and rerwrapped, jobs a good un...

Thanks again to all on here.. Dave :D

My clocks/wipers/headlights have been playing up for the last few weeks so I got the replacement alternator wiring today - seems the price

keeps going up as it cost £26! Worth it though as everything seems to be fine now. Can't believe the state of the old wires, 2 of them only

had the outer sheath left, no copper to be seen!

Thanks to all the helpful posts on this and the part number :D

hi. me too having the battery warning light staying on.

the previous owner had a new battery, alternator, belts and starter motor fitted 4 weeks ago because of this problem. he failed to tell me that the battery light still stayed on when i parted with the cash(but thats another story).
any way after trolling through the informative forum found the 'wiring loom fix'. i've duely purchased the loom and fitted it.

BUT THE BL**DY LIGHT IS STILL STAYING ON..............

the battery at rest is stating 12.3v
when cranking it goes down to 11.5v
running at idle 11.96v
running at 2000rpm 11.98v
running at 200rpm withe heater and lights on 11.98v

is this pointing to the replacement alternator being faulty, if not the could anybody point me in the right direction please

cheers
