Front Coil Spring

Postby dalbuie » Sat Aug 13, 2011 4:52 pm

Hi,

I've just removed my nearside front coil spring and have purchased a new one. I've removed all I can to push the wishbone down as far as I can but my small spring compressors are not up to the job so am looking for a new set.

Was looking at this set - http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/laser-0290-coil-spring-compressor-heavy-duty?da=1&TC=RV-040810290 - which is rated at 1500KG and wondered if anyone had tried them or have any tips on the replacement or suitable compressors.

Cheers
D

What van are we talking about because you shouldn't need a spring compressor?

A P Reg Smiley. I've removed the hub from the wishbone but it would take a lot of force to move the wishbone down far enough to get the spring to fit in. Worried I would break something so thought it would be best to compress the spring a bit.

What is the bets fitting procedure?

Have you unbolted the shock absorber, track rod and anti roll bar link rod (if fitted)?

Yes, only the front and side wishbone bush still connected.

I probably could lever it down to allow the spring into the top cup but wasn't sure if this was the way to do it.

If everything's disconnected then there's nothing to damage.

Cheers.

I thought it might affect the bushes if they were strained too far but I'll have another go.
