2.4 TDCi H9FA, H9FB, & H9FD Engines

Postby ECROZ » Fri Nov 11, 2011 9:12 pm

Hi again folks,

Looking for engine measurement & machining limits for the above engines
(factory engine w/shop manual would be great)

Have 2 failed H9FB engines and the customer wants me to try & make them in to 1 good one as a spare for his fleet

One has spun a main the other has destroyed the top end

Unable to find the information through my normal engine machinists as they haven't either done one b4 or got any data on them
Hoping to obtain the information so we can do the job together

A long bare engine from Ford is over $14,500.00 here :!:

Thanks in advance

Basically all the same.

lower powered ones dont have the oil splash nozzles under pistons.

cranks all the same

quite a few different rods and pistons, for all the engines.

well 3 for 2.0 3 for 2.4's

This determins the 3 differnet Head gasket thicknesses required.

3 different sizes of pistons A,B,C i think. Which can be for any of the engines.

All cams the same for each engine.

As you know timing sprockets can differ, chain etc.

This is for tddis the tdci engines do have a couple of differences.

Actually im sure ive posted all the info before ill look for it.

would probably be easier to use a good bottom end and fit the head onto it,

thanks for the info

I unloaded them about a month ago and left them in the corner of the workshop (came to me stripped & in boxes)
Was gonna do as you say use the good bottom end with the good head, but really want to measure bores, crankpins, etc b4 i get too involved as if a lot of machining is reqd might not be cost effective.

I can source imported long bare engines for a fraction of the Ford price

But would be good to do to familarise myself & my machinists with the engine

This is a back burner project, but need the technical info/measurements so I can advise customer

All heads are the same even a tdci could be used for a tddi, but not the other way round because of the cam sensor on a tdci.

Main thing to watch out for is double check the hg thickness for what conrods are fitted.
And the correct size piston thats it really....
Also what to watch for is there is 2 different front crank seals to go with a 2 different timing covers.

There is a free download of the Ford Technical info on all the engines somewhere, shows all dimensions that differ and what doesnt.

No unfortunately ther doesn't appear to be any available than this one yeah it is old but does help a lot.
You can just use Microsoft word to copy from it to clipboard.
If you need any further info on the tdci system, there is more in depth in the transit connect section
takes a bit of searching for different things but it is all there..
