I'll keep an eye out for when you're able to get back into it.

haha, didnt twig, needs a INSERT REDBACK TOILET SEAT SONG TUNE HERE Hint..
i still havent decided what dash to be used yet, on this van,.. i like the XE one i put up last, but the EA sports cluster is a close fit to the transit instument cowel. and i plan to use XF falcon or even fairlane wiring and hopefully get the cruise control working too.
its a bit adventurous, but should be doable.

I really have to remember to tick the 'notify when reply posted' box...Only just came across your reply when I noticed on your project link 'falcon diff conversion'...I went looking to see if you'd played that double long housing/axle game.It will be interesting to see the results of your dashboard mod, whichever way you go. Do you plan to hook up the falcon column by shortening the transit steering box column housing/shaft to somewhere near the firewall and linking them with a knuckle joint?.........or something more elaborate?

i doubt i will modify it further now, it will probably end up with a cortina cluster in the stock dash with stock transit column.. mainly because i am on a time deadline with moving.

Last place we rented, the guy decided to sell the place..turned out better since the area we're in now is more rural...Every now and then I think..Hope something like that doesn't happen when the van is still a rolling shell/mass of spare parts. With the stock dash etc you'll be on the road a lot quicker and you can always mess with it down the line if you get bitten by the modification bug and time permits.

well, continuing on my THINKING OUT LOUD ideas.

the XE dash cluster wasn't doing it for me, the dash needed a fair amount of modding to sit right i thought(i didn't think about chopping it to bits until after i butchered the XG falcon one)

i personally prefer the XG falcon setup anyway. i originally wanted to use the full crash pad, but the steel Transit dash would have needed too much cutting.
so i went to town on the XG dash with my Sawsall reciprocating saw.. what a brilliant invention

anyway, with this current setup, if i use a Full XF(not XG) wiring loom for engine bay and dash and modify the cluster wires to suit(done this before) and adapt the EB blinker/wiper combo wires it should be fairly easy to nut out.
**(i thought about using EB wiring as it will plug into the cluster and wiper thing.. but then the headlight and hazards will be not usable without mods on that side.. plus i already have an XF loom)

so, the EB blinker/wiper thing fits the transit column fairly close(needs a slight sleeve made up though) even the stock wheel cancels the blinker..
My thoughts are, get a Boss kit to suit the Transit and mount the XR6 momo steering wheel to that, i grabbed a horn ring off an EB fairmont for the cruise functions if i can adapt it to the transit boss kit properly?

anyway, had enough for today.. will do some more thinking to see if i come up with better ideas before pulling it all to bits to weld the rust up.
pics below are self explanatory pretty much

HA!...There is no hope for you!....the modification bug has bitten!....more deadly than any redback!! ...I'll come back for a better look at what you've done but right now I have to 'bail' to go to work.

yeah we dont have any XA or XB(same dash) parts here.. well not many at least. they are rare. i havent seen an XA-XB driving on the road for 10 years.
they all went the way of the crusher like the XF(1985-1993) falcons are now.. so little of them on the road the wreckers are scrapping them all.

even what i have fitted now is not really worth it in parts value.

see what happens, i am not committed to it yet, and may still change my mind and go back to the stock dash.

thanks mate.
been thinking about it lately.. any day soon i will be back onto it one way or another(really need to adapt the combination switch wiring to the earlier falcon wiring first.
(can test that once done in my other car)

That's some pretty interesting stuff you've got going with the dash....it'll all fit one way or another...depending on how you choose to skin the proverbial cat.
Love your magic dash mat....one size fits all.......you could put plates over those holes in the dash.....administer large quantities of selleys space invader....squish that dash mat down on top.......Voila!!!...One custom dash!!!

actually, now you mention it, that space invader stuff shapes fairly well, could probably work it into a nice shape and skin it with vinyl if i am keen(doubt it)
been busy with other projects lately, will get there eventually. hopefully before the hot days come back
