front steering bushes

Postby gringo » Fri Jun 15, 2012 8:30 pm

can someone please tell me the outside diameter, inside diameter and the length of the front kingpin bushes for a mk1/mk2 front disc brake axle...
also is it just a matter of removing the tapered pin to slide the kingpin out ??

You're not trying to make your own bushes are you??? no idea on sizes, but yes once that cotter pin is drifted out in theory the king pin should come out. One of my KP's fell out, the other needed a bit of gentle persuasion when I did mine.

I've found these either come out reasonably easy or they are a right pig.
Its better sometimes to remove the whole axle which then gives you something solid to hit onto with a big hammer.
The tapered pins need a strong clout with a strong drift and the king pins themselves sometimes fall out or can need the heat of a torch to start them moving. They should be broached after fitting but most people dont bother,as long as they turn with no play you should be OK.

I drilled my cotter pins, weakens the metal enough to help extraction.
