Clutch slipping

Postby Richach » Tue Jun 26, 2012 2:38 pm

Hi,

Had clutch converted from dmf to solid on 2.4 rwd mk6 115 in March 2011. 25k down the road and it is slipping in first and second gear. Almost always slight jolt when first gear selected when stationary. Also engine oil leak from crankshaft, Cannot select reverse gear first thing in the morning as van has no biting point, however if 1st selected it is happy. My neighbour who is Ford mechanic fitted this one and was not neighbourly about the price! however i knew i was looking at another clutch soon after collecting the van. Starts first time all fine. I am wondering should i let it go until clutch is knackered completeley as i could keep it running for at least a couple of months before it becomes to troublesome.

In any case i would like to start looking at what type of clutch to fit when the time comes, it has only ever had genuine ford clutches so would prefer fords. Am i correct in thinking that that Luk supply ford?

Also need a good clutch specialists, i hear the transit centre in dudley are good, any ideas?

Oh and what sort of price should i pay for a good job.

Thanks
Richach

sounds like contamination at 25k and leaking crank seal, I'd put it in 5th with handbrake on hard and rev about 2500 and see if it slips/stalls easily. Make sure the slave is ok and well bled, check for contamination in the bell housing.
I think i used a luk clutch in my mk6 i believe Ford use them.

I got a luk dmf for about 80 iirc.
If you are relying on a specialist to replace the clutch kit probably best to get the price after they replace it!
:x
Copper slip and a lump hammer and you'll be just fine!

Well how about this, in preperation for Mot (passed, no advisorys) i had tracking sorted and new rear tyre and it hardly slips now if at all. Apperantly the front tyres were scrubbing and needed tracking by 10mm (wheels akimbo). I have decided to get it tracked every 6 months, at £20 at time its well worth it as tracking always seems to be out.

Off to silverstone on Friday, may see it HRT Pedro dela Rosa want to borrow my van as it has Spanish blood and all, it may well do better than his car!

There is me thinking the engines are made in Spain, how ever i may be mistaken. Would rather have had feed back on the problem but experience has shown me never to expect anything. Something is a bonus really now i am armed with that little nugget of information.

I think LUK do supply one clutches, your problems sound to me like they are related to the slave cylinder
