Spring replacement on Mk6 Chassis Cab

Postby dieselhead123 » Tue Jul 03, 2012 8:26 am

On a twin rear wheel chassis cab, is it possible to fit the stronger springs as fitted to the larger payload vehicles.
Ours is a 350?

Yeah no probs at all. I did the exact same to mine. Easy job I'd recommend cleaning up the hangers when you have the springs off. Good rub down n a dose of waxoyl waste oil etc

What springs did you use mate?

Are the twin wheel, large mini buses 4.6t? Would the springs be a direct replacement?
Ours are 2 leaves plus one 'helper'.

Not after the extra payload, it is only a 3.5t, BUT, as it is a vehicle transporter, the 'load' will be fairly high up so stiffer springs may help to reduce body roll and improve vehicle stability.

Thanks,

I actually went to a scrappy and got them from a transit tipper. I'm sure the minibus would be the heavier spring too tachometer etc. you could always bring your own springs to a firm that would fit an extra leaf. Shop about if I remember it wasn't much of a difference. I use my van for newspaper deliveries and regularly have a heavy pallet at the rear, and my vans a drw T350

The springs fitted as standard to the twin wheeler are well up to the job, body roll and stability are not an issue if you don't seriously overload your truck, unless the springs are clapped out , I would be tempted to try your truck before you spend any money.

I was considering a 'suck it and see' approach

Just that access for replacing the springs will be greater before we fit the transporter body, the curtainsider that we removed was well built to say the least
