why do you think my oil flicked on then off whilst driving?
was it low? or could just be clogged filter if it was due a change
Also if they're going to take cover off again, to avoid the need of getting yet another new one
after all bolts (and two nuts) are removed from the edge, drive a large flat head screwdriver in at the top centre just enough to start to ease the cover forwards (it will bend a bit where the screwdriver is but can be bent / hammered flat enough once off), then whilst a slight gap is there, they should use a small width wallpaper scraper to slice evenly down each side of the cover whilst gently pulling forward, work around all the edge like this and it will come off with minimal bending, allowing re use
(have done this loads of times, including 4 times on my own van, never needed a new cover yet) (dont forget a new waterpump gasket when its re fitted after cover goes back on and new o ring on the coolen elbow, lubricate o ring with smear of clean engine oil before pushing elbow back in, to stop o ring getting nicked against metal edge
)
And yes oil will turn quite black if engine has been run since filling up. Diesels are that dirty
One final thing to add, if the crank pulley is coming off again, the htree bolts that hold it on MUST be replced, Fords state they can be re used a maximum of 3 times, due to there required torque, they slightly stretch each time theyre done up
