Fitting Inverter

Postby kjb » Sun Oct 07, 2012 1:16 pm

Has anyone fitted a inverter to a connect?with the onset of winter & needing a facility to recharge power tools/hand held torches ect I was exploring the cost of buying & fitting such an item, wondered where was the best place to pick up a feed as the inverter would be situated towards the n/s/r of the cargo area,Maplins seems as good as anywhere to purchase a inverter, unless anyone has any suggestions

I've got an inverter.
Wired it direct to the amp live lead, which runs to the battery. I am using 13mm cable direct to the battery.
Useful for tools, kettle etc.

I've got the 300w maplins one in their discounted 20 quid deal.
It uses a fag lighter socket at 150w and direct battery connection at 300w so you need fused 20A 2.5mm sq for fag mode and for direct run from battery then fused wire something like this will do,

Or a single fused at battery 4mm sq positive to a clamp post or direct wired and use vehicle earth.

Hardwired to battery is the way to go I think, where is the best place to enter the bulkhead with the wiring though?

Often easier to run it underneath vehicle, should be easy to find an internal routing though, make sure it's fused as close to battery as possible, i like marine grade waterproof blade holders for this sort of stuff @£2.50 at chandlers pick up an 8mm ring crimp too.

I have a 600w power inverted mounted on bulk head. Also have a split charger and battery running in back and it is all wired and secure underneath the vehicle. Very secure as easiest way to get wired up.
