Mk2 pinto to early di conversion

Postby Retrohowla » Sat Jul 07, 2007 9:32 pm

Thinking of replacing the thirsty 2.0 pinto with a 92 di
Its a lwb mk2 and a few people have raised concerns around pulling power, will it be that sluggish? :?:

di will have more pulling power, but will probly be slower un loaded :?

worst thing with Di's in mk1/2's is the noise :x

Right thats not too much of a drama, well if i get more than 15-20mpg out of the di it will be an improvement on the pinto

Thanks for the info, the main reasons for the swap are mpg, reliability and the fact that the pino is very cammy and the box is pick a gear any gear!
But you say the pinto with 5 speed is the way to go?
Will it bolt sraight on?
What about prop length?

So would i have a type 9 on the 92 di?
This box has been pretty good for me for around 35 thou so far in the swb
As i have the di and box from my 92 swb would this not be a sensible option?
Forgive my lack of knowledge but i ran a 2.0 pinto in my capri for years and although good just never matched the di for out and out dependable reliability so figured better the devil i know with the donor parts as opposed to cammy smokey pinto i have no history on?
But if you think a rebuild and mt75 would suit better for the long run?
I am getting lost now!

Essex was considered for a moment (or maddness) as three sat on the drive but just not what i am after
Few more mpg, reliable workhorse easy swap on a budget is what i am after

Like a dunce i am sat here asking what box i have when i changed the bloody prop it was a bolted flange so its mt75?
So with this box in mind what would you go for, cammy pinto or trusty old di?
