how to remove a mk7 steering wheel

just had a quick look and couldnt find any posts on removing a mk7 steering wheel any help gratefully received.
MK7 2006, 2.4 tdci, 140ps + TUNIT box = 165ps jumbo rwd known as "Big Blue" to the kids.

Its a bit of a pain to explain but here goes. Remove the cowling then get a mirror and look on the back of the air bag and you will see some spring clips, you have to push the clips in one at a time then move on to the next on. Once all move you can lift off the air bag then you will see the bolt holding the wheel on.
I suggest when pushing the spring clips make sure the corner of the air bag is at 1 oclock then spin the wheel till the next corner of the air bag is at the 1 oclock position.

SOrry but i know thats sounds crap, easier to show than to explain..

the air bag on mine was a B*****d to get off

When refitting make sure you dont trap the wires

is this a dumb question guys??? i hear youre supposed to disconnect the battery before messing with the steering wheel and airbag on mk6 and 7`s to prevent them going off by accident,,,is this true or false ? i heard a tale of one going off on someone and breaking his arm :?

Yeah you should do really and wait about 5 mins before you touch the air bag.

It's the easiest thing I have done on my van so far changing the wheel and bag
