Mk7 trailer wiring kit for use with parking sensors

Postby Airthies » Tue Jun 25, 2019 11:20 pm

Looking at fitting a genuine trailer kit since this mk7 has parking sensors.
What's available? Does anyone have the wiring harness laying around?
Or a good source other than Ford?

You can get the 7 pin dedicated kit fairly cheap, i got the 13 pin kit for red then turned on in ids and then fed it through etc.
Pf jones give you the full kit with fitting kit and instructions which actually was handy because the kit doesn't look that straight forward which is actually quite hard for us engineering types to get our heads around :x

Custom plugs in under the passenger plastic foot tray step.

Mk7 either the 2 passenger inner chassis leg at the front or there's a connector near the back I think?

But someone who's fitted the mk7 1 will be able to correct me in sure.

I fitted the 7 way bypass relay to snowflake, 10 quid or so  cheap at twice that 8)

Yea fitted a bypass relay to the big Guinea pig before symple an cheep, but was thinking if I'm going this far might as well do it properly to work with the parking sensors

Trailer tow module which is probably can bus.

Tbh my 13 pin kit was 2 boxes and weighed a fair bit, a lot of wiring and connectors, 130 quid though. Done once and done right, I normally think like you but in this case I just paid the ferryman.

Hi All,
I'm in a similar situation as O.P.
Except, my van (08/2008) came with trailer wiring installed the lazy way, taken from rear lamps only.
So when tow hitch is on (and trailer), and reverse selected, the park assist just continuously goes off.
I'm currently sourcing an interface relay kit (on its way).
I do not have any factory installed trailer wiring, there is nothing in the footwells, etc.

Can someone clarify what the pin 4 'Trailer Detect' Does, or is wired to (image from BEMM).
Would this be a +12v or 0v trigger to the BCU to determine a trailer is connected.
I have an trailer connector that has a reed switch in the flap, could this be used back to this Pin 4?

Regards,
Dion from South Australia

Switches in the trailer sockets are usually for swapping fog lights from rear of van to trailer so the fog lights on the van do not reflect on the trailer while driving though I'm not sure what your plugs are like in Australia compared to the UK?
Would need to look at a wiring diagram to try and see what the trailer detect sense line is connected into to work out if it's a directed feed or a can signal.
My guess is that is looking for a return feed from the trailer tow module

Yeah, that's what I've gathered from reading on here.
I would expect it has to do something similar to disable the PAM.
My next option would be to put a relay in, operated from the socket switch, that drops off power to the rears sensors.
From what i can tell the sensor loom has 6 wires, so I suspect +12v, 0v and four return signals for each sensor.
Maybe someone can share the wiring diagram for the park sensors to PAM.

Australian trailers are(were) typically 7pin either flat or round, with no separate left/right clearance markers.
I've got a flat plug, with an electric trailer brake controller installed (pin 5 goes to the electric brakes).

I also just noticed this may be in the wrong thread area...
I'd done a bit of forum keyword searches to find this particular post, and replied.
