MK5 SWB TD E-BAY `271518741549`

Postby Kjon » Sat Jun 14, 2014 5:19 pm

Hi folks.
Anyone know anything about this van. Advertised as having a 100 bhp engine. Is it, how do you tell ?
Is this overpriced ??

No idea how to link ebay ads, so, item number `271518741549`.

I've currently got a Tourneo 2.0 8V petrol which is in a `state of disrepair`.
Is the TD engine van a better buy than a petrol Tourneo (performance/economy)

Thoughts anyone ?

diffrent people say petrol better as quieter and if lpg its cheaper per ile than diesel..diesel more noisy but TD makes them go ok..as long as the epic pump dont throw a wobbly.. easily fixed with manual bosch pump if u wanted to junk the epic pump

it really depends on what you use your van for really, but if you decide to get rid of your petrol van let me know as i could use a few bits for my van.

In common with all MK5 ex RAC vans, it's 85ps, not 100ps.

Its been fairly recently painted and he admits there are a "few bubbles in the paint" its scruffy inside and its 18 yrs old :!: at 1400 I'd say it was overpriced by about 300/400 :!: it looks tidy now but by next spring it will look like a lot of other Mk5 transits that age and then you'll have to start spending time and money on it you might as well buy an honest one for half that and spend the difference sorting it yourself (at least you would know what "lies beneath")

I know that some will say different as its a turbo and a 150 but changing an 80 with a N/A Di to heavy axles and adding a turbo don't cost a great deal (it would still only be an 80 on the book and would only legally carry 800 kgs) but who actually buys a van that age to work hard :?: (most just buy them for the spec/looks not really intending to carry a tonne and a half)

It sounds like a half decent van but its too much money for what it is......an everyday rusty transit with a fresh coat of paint

Cheers guys.
Usefull info and comments.
Kinda thought it might be the 85 rather than the 100, and I understand what you're saying about it having a lick of paint that could be hiding a multitude of rusty sins.
I would be buying it for work purposes (roofer) (i've got the leisure van, vw t4)
I reckon it is overpriced, but will still go and see it and try to knock him down on price to something more reasonable. Whatever the outcome I will let you know how it goes.

Many thanks and hopefully I will be on here again asking for help with whatever mistake I buy next

PS: Not sure what will happen to the tourneo when I have a replacement van, strip it for bits or sell on as a `project`. Will let you know.

Cheers.
