Looks to have a offset gear stick. I thought these were only on early mk3s.

Was bored this afternoon so i put reg into google.
Says its a 89.

could this be the oldest regestered mk3 there is a list on the forum somewhere

This doesn't add up, it's got the early speedo, and the cast iron gearbox, which makes it pre 89, so why did it take 5 years to be registered?
I reckon it's dodgy!

unless the original chassis cab was 89 then it was taken to be built, not sure how long that might take, then it might have hung around the show room for a bit?

Used to see lots of early Mk3s on M plates in the auctions, mainly water board or british rail, allways stood out cos of the early mirrors on later plates coachbuilts i've seen up to an N (mini coach/bus/shopper hoppers type).
British rail used to have a warehouse with new shells in storage, my last recovery was built from a new tipper crewcab/chassis that came from BR stock (salvage yard in essex cleared the BR stock and a yard worker buit it from the new shell using the ID from a scrapper they had in the yard) so i had an early shell (type9 box) on a H reg but with an MT75 added when it was built (cut and shut floor for the gearstick), it was illeagal but a mint shell crewcab recovery for £1800 AND i knew the history (so not stolen ect) it was worth it

It was actually yellow not luminouse though, shame cos the headlamps were crap
