Upgrading a Pinto :o)

Postby Boycie » Tue Jan 09, 2007 6:50 pm

Hi all :)

My bus has a 2.0 Pinto, I like it because it's so much more refined than my old banana Di, but it's quite juicey and carburettors are alien to me!!

I want to upgrade it, possibly to EFi or DOHC?

Can anyone tell me if the blocks are the same on these engines? My lump has done only 75k from new, and is still nice 'n tight  hence, I'd rather not replace it with a smokey old 150k+ lump from a Sierra etc!

I will convert to LPG after I've sorted out the engine, my daily drive Omega V6 runs on gas and I just hate wasting money on petrol!!

Anyone suggest options?

Cheers :D

dohc and pinto are entirely different engines, the efi pinto is easy to do, and I beleive some transits came with the dohc engine, so they can be fitted with standard ford parts.......but one of the experts will be along soon to confirm or deny

EFI would be easy enough...if you can find the bits, the Transit Pinto Block is virtually the same as any other so a Sierra head and EFI stuff will fit, you need the head, manifold+injectors, wiring loom and ECU, then you need to sort out the fuelling, you can either use a Transit EFI Tank (rare!) or use an aftermarket pump and swirl pot, from what I can gather it wouldnt be too dificult either way.

Dohc is a different animal but still doable as the engine was available, for this you would need an exhaust system and engine mounts and possibly a rad and elec fans too, as well as the DOHC equivelant stuff listed above for the Pinto.
