Mk7 2.3 petrol to BOA/BOB 2.9 V6

Postby Manchester Gas » Mon May 27, 2013 12:42 pm

Has anyone done it?

Had a spark plug snapped in head and other running problems and wondering if anyone has done the above conversion and has any tips before I buy an car for the engine.

I've done engine conversions before and used to be an auto electrician so no issues with the wiring, more gearbox fitment/motor mounts/exhaust etc.

Mods, feel free to move if this will get more exposure elsewhere, Thanks.

Thanks

Adam.

Can't see it being easy, clocks, ecu, locks are not interchangeable, so you would need to transplant the whole car system, plus the emissions may not be good enough for that age of vehicle??

emmissions go on the age of the engine :D

go for the BOA they are great in a transit i can't see it not fitting as V8's have been in plenty of times  but either fit the auto of the MT75 with the adapter plate :D

Am I missing something here? Things like the ABS are all part of the ECU function on these vans, you can't even change the fuel pump without re coding, how are you going to make it drive able by putting a non transit engine in a MK7, I can understand older non can bus vans, but can't see it being fully functional on a MK 7?? Perhaps I am completely wrong here, but that's my understanding.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll try to answer the questions..

Rumble, it's just a boggo white 2007 T350 145, Petrol & LPG dealer fit Necam. it's got a 4 digit plate that ends in 1 so that's the only give away.
I was thinking the BOA as it is already RWD for the oil pick up etc and exhaust etc may nearly fit, also shouldn't have a problem with emissions due to LPG anyway

Limited black, that's why I am trying to find out what I can before I do it, I don't think it will be done in a day but I do like the challenge, if it mates up to the std gearbox then the rest is relatively easy.
Clocks shouldn't really be a problem, I can always run the 2 ecu's side by side, the BOA engine management doesn't take much to start the engine, I can live without abs/a speedo (Tom Tom)/ rev counter in the short term if needed, just need it back on the road pretty soon.

Luke, Yes  will try and get a pre '92. I've seen 1 v8 Mk7 transit but it had a lot of work done and don't want to modify the firewall, not sure if that was the case as I have only seen the video. Can you point me to anyone that has done the conversion in a Mk6/7 please? Will I need an adapter plate as it is already petrol? can I buy one off the shelf anywhere? the engine was completely different in the mk6 to the mk7, I believe it is the ford ranger engine (unsure of what year).

IT'S ON!

OK, so, Engine was fixed and back together and ran, but I think the cam chain is catching somewhere, and it still idles high so I've bought a BOA engine, loom, ecu, afm etc.

Can anyone get hold of a wiring diagram for my van as info seems a bit sparse!

Also, does anyone have the wiring info for the BOA engine -body loom connectors?

My van is in Ford after having some body repairs and should be back on monday, picking engine up Tuesday

Chris/Rumble - Spotted you on thursday afternoon on Ashburton Rd, I was in my 2.8 BM Compact.
