single wheel twin wheel axle swap

Postby B.OG.COM » Sun Jun 03, 2007 10:27 pm

is swapping an axle from an f-reg single wheel lwb petrol tranny to a g-reg 2.5di non turbo lwb minibus tranny a wise move??? doing the job is no prob as a welder & have mechanic mates to do any clever bits. it wont be carrying much weight. am using as a camper/minibus. would just like better motorway cruising. cheers for any advice.

what you doing about brake balance :?: also your fronts are you doing that too :?: to match wheel pcd :)

the spring mounts are further in on the LWB twin wheelers - you 'd probly be better off moving the springs rather than the hangers :? mabe - but its not a job ive looked into

pcd??? is a six wheel single axle. or was when i got it. might be different wheels. seems to have large twin wheel drums. brake balance should be ok????? why move the springs??? is ok atm mite still use twin wheel set up. prefer single as less rolling resistance. cheers

oh sorry my mistake - i read it as swb
they are the same axle then both G-type - the ratio might be different but you could in therory swap the diff into yours :D but yeah brakes will be ok :D

you would still have a problem with the wheel as 1 will be twin-deep dish and one single-flat :)

you'll need to swap the front hubs too - if you want to have a set of matching wheels :D or your fronts will stick out quite a bit :)

I'd check the ratio tho, yours being a mini bus "should" have the lowest one in it now :D

looks not important. i mite swap fronts any way as front discs on me camper are glazed over & not very good. what would be the best ratio???? dont want to go the other way n be in third all the time. have an old type petrol gearbox on a van im breaking would that be a wise choice?? i have converted my camper to mt75 box which seems fine. cheers for your help & advice

i think 4.63 is the best crusing ratio you could get on the heavy duty axle :D
