anyone fitted Galaxy rear seats?

Postby Gavin » Thu Jul 12, 2007 10:39 pm

i could sometimes do with a fourth seat im my van, buy at other times i need room for upto 3 motorbikes, and more often i need space ffor 8x4' building materials. and then i occasionally need room for a double airbed as well.

so a fixed seat is a non starter, and those QD ones on ebay are horrendously expensive.

galaxy QD rear seats can be had from £40, its just a case of getting the fixings and putting them in the floor.

has anyone done it? any idea if it would work?

They go 180° to face the rear, or at least all the ones I've seen, that's what the tables are for.

Rear seats are fixed with 4 clippie points. The fronts rotate round on some models.

so has anyone a clue if this will work?

i guess the mounts just bolt into the floor, and so could be fitted in the floor of a tranny?

Ooh, removable seating, if you do attempt this one, please take plenty of photos. I have been thinking about this one for sometime. :)

Bolting seats to floor

Postby Screaminkiwi » Tue Jul 17, 2007 11:24 pm

Hi.First time on site for ages.I picked up a double front seat with a view to putting them in the back, but really concerned as if i drill in the floor just inside the sliding door..it looks like the petrol tank is directly beneath? Am i right? Also, id imagine there must be regulations with putting in extra seats. Some help wud be ..well..helpful !

There is no hard and fast rule as so many different seats get fitted in the backs of Transit.
For sure you have to drill the floor near the tank so measure it several times inside and underneath, dropping the tank if you have to.
In addition to the holes for bolts to go through since you are placing a potential weight bearing structure where it wasn't supposed to be (an adult/child in a crash gets very heavy very quickly, plates to spread the load would be recomended if not required for an MOT (probably are required) fixing plates for the anchor points for the seat belts is a definate must fit.

isn't it if the belt is fixed to the seat, then the seat must have plates, if the belt is fixed to the van then the belt to the van mounts must be reinforced.

Re-read what you have just said, whichever way you read that you have to fit plates ;) Even a lapbelt will have a floor mounted part, inertia belts will again have at least one part fixed to something in the van that it wasn't intended to be fitted to, so that point will have to be reinforced with a plate.

had a look at my mates galaxy over the weekend. i reckon this is going to be quite easy. the galaxy floor plates bolt flush into the floor, theres 4 per seat, the seat belt clasps are integral with the seats, the belts themselves are in the door pillars with the upper mounts in the normal place on the pillars.

im thinking about finding one at a scrap yard and just cutting the floor around the plates, and rewelding those bits into the tranny, the seat belts will go in too, dont know if they are all the same, but mine has the apertures and captive nuts for seatbelts in the back, on the rear sliding door pillar.....

yes, you need plates, but where you put them is dependant on where the seat belts are mounted.

Keep us updated on this. I have the similar fitting in my car and I thought that the clippy points were recessed in the floor, sort of pressed into the floor plan. Admittedly I am not sure on this because I've never had mine to bits.
