Spotlight Relay

Postby stuartrobbie » Fri Aug 24, 2007 10:29 pm

hi, someone asked me how i wired my roof spotlights up, from memory i think this is how i done it but i didnt want to give them the wrong information. also i want to know if my lights are wired up.

so could some bright spark (no pun intended) please confirm if this is correct or point out any faults? thanks in advance.

Image

the fuse should go between the battery and the relay not the relay and the lights as shown

the live wire from battery to relay should be connected to pin number 30

the earth from battery to relay is pin number 86

the live wires from lights to relay is pin 87

and the final wire runs from switch to relay pin 85
I don't switch my lights on... I turn the dark OFF!

You've made a mistake with the diagram, a low capacity cable goes from battery positive to 1 side of switch, not ground as you pictured

I asked about this some time ago and after a lot of back and forth with what was wrong etc with the diagram this picture below was deemed to be correct.
Just expand it with regard to the extra lamps you have.

That is a very good diagram Mark.

You shouldn't put switches in the ground side of a circuit. It just isn't done.
Current Transit: Mk8 tourneo Sport with go faster stripes.

Long time sold: Mk5 LWB 190, 2.5di banana SHR, 3 seats, SLD, Twin rear doors (rusted bottoms), manual locking & windows.

The only fault I can see with this one is that 85 and 87 are labelled around the wrong way.

Staurt the way you have done the diagram it would never work as there is no feed to the relay to power the lights because you have put 2 earths to it.

:? The switch has a ground but isn't switching the ground. It is switching the live feed of either dipped or main beam.

You took part in the orginal thread that I created the diagram for and never said that at the time, This diagram was version 3, ammended after each suggestion as to what I had drawn wrong each time.

So if that IS the case with the relay numbers then here is an updated version.

I was referring to the flashing beacon thread. someone said something about putting a switch in the ground of the beacon. Which would of been pointless because they could of used a local ground. Sorry for the confusion Mark.
