what conections have you on back of the dvd player? to be honest you would be better getting another amp and doing it that way.
my dvd player is wired through a special box (pioneer stereo and special box) the dvd player has phonos which plug into the box then that converts it to a cd changer lead then i use the aux output from my head unit and the sound comes out all my speakers, but you could use the phonos from the dvd player straight into an amp if the dvd player has stereo left and right phonos out if that makes sense if you t it you lose sound quality and the more you t it the more quality you lose

Why would you want 2 headunits?

Diodes?????? diodes are in effect a one way valve for dc only, as your input and output signals are ac, I doubt if diodes would work.

Do you have a line input on the back of your head unit, that would be better idea.?
