3 litre V6 in a smiley!

Postby crazygore » Fri Feb 10, 2006 2:31 pm

I am looking at fitting a Essex V6 from a late mk2 ambulance into my 95 100 LWB smiley front, currentley a 2.5 diesel, I want to fit the whole lot inc gearbox(4 speed),does anyone know what engine mounts to use? prop shaft etc. I have the whole ambulance to raid, do the parts swap over? or is it going to be a bugger?Any help would be great, Keith.

you can use the existing engine mounts ,exhaust etc, the problem may be the gearbox mounting side of things as you will have a mt75 set up! you will have to cut out the floor abit to fit the 4 speed ,but i think the best thing is to get hold of a 4 speed crossmember ,you will also have to have the propshaft alterd! on the gearbox end!
this has been done before so i know it will fit as ratwood on this forum has fitted a 3ltr v6 overdrive into his! ,it might be worth contacting him as he was talking about going diesel! :)

I wondered about this myself- as a smiley is made after 1992,if you put a petrol engine in wouldnt it need a catalytic converter to pass an mot?or is there an exemption for "home built" non-standard vehicles?
