Split rims

Postby Luke » Tue Sep 02, 2008 9:20 pm

anyone had any dealings with split rim alloys :?: i'm looking out for bits to collect for a future project and i saw these on ebay 8)

only sold for £150  shame they were too far for me to collect

Image

they are the sort of thing ive got in mind ............ except the offset :|

anyway my question is how difficult is it to interchange the rims :?: or is it a pro only job :?:
if so what sort of price would i be looking at :?:

i assume they have some sort of gasket, o ring, seal between the rims what would it be :?

any other advice appreciated

you can split the rims yourself,
heard of folks doing it
but to be honest i'd go with factory re-finish

the rims are available with various offsets to give the variations
to make the wheel face plate suit any applications,

there is indeed a rubber gasket between the rims and face plate
2 per wheel
availablity of these for D.I.Y. is unknown

try compomotive themselves,
or any of the wheel refurb places
all will have access to the gaskets etc

how's that mrmpuk

go on then  say i bought those above and wanted a 4" deep front rim fitting how much would it set me back :?: just a rough idea :D

what makes share the different fittings - ie is it only a compomotive rim that can fit a compomotive rim or can others ie bbs fit compo's :?:

also what are they like for leaking :?: a mate says he had some and they leaked trough the joins :? is that common :?:

irrelevant question,
as compomotive manufacture the magnesium rim edges,
they can be made to suit other wheels simple as width of rim edge and hole locations etc

your mates needed refurbing,
theyre fine by all accounts, leakings usually taken as time for refreshing etc

give compomotive a bell,
ask em who the best to speak to regards getting these wheels made to suit requirements,
as above,
wheel refurbishment places will also be able to help with these,

tip - dont cut corners if you can help it,
