Repair my arches!/Respray

Postby GrahamT » Wed Apr 20, 2005 12:52 am

Couldn't see anywhere else to ask so here goes!

I would like to get all 4 arches repaired and resprayed. I was quoted £600 but that sounds a bit OTT to me! But then, I haven't had anything sprayed/repaired in years!

Also wondering how much a respray (total or maybe just bottom half) would cost, roughly, doing my own prep work???

Anyone had this done recently?

Cheers,
Graham

Sorry Graham, but how long is a piece of string? We have got our work lutons resprayed (blown over!!!) for £400, last one a couple of years ago. Our body man (not the £400 merchant) is very good, but quoted me £1000 for a LWB panel, he does quality work with all the prep. So you would be looking for something in the middle.

Thats fine, I know its a bit of a finger in the air job but judging by your answer a rub down, fill and spray for four arches should be a fair bit less than £600! I think he was politely telling me to "bugger orf"! :)

Its the repair part that will cost the money!! - if you just wanted them rubbing down and respraying you'd probly get that done for £200 or less but cutting the old arches out welding in new repair panels - thats where the labour cost is - it's quite time consuming!! :(

HIYA MATE ,

HERE GOES , I HAD A NEW WING , SECTION OF ARCH CUT OUT AND REPLACED , BONNET STRIPPED AND PAINTED FRONT BUMPER MACHINED BACK AND PAINTED AND THE ROOF STRIPPED AND PAINTED ,
BUT THE TROUBLE WITH MY PAINT WAS THAT IT IS METALIC , WHICH MEANT THAT I NEEDED ALOT MORE PAINTED SO THAT IT BLENDED IN AND DIDNT END UP WITH ODD PANELS , I HAD THIS DONE AT A LOCAL COACH BUILDERS WHICH HAS A HIGH REPUTATION ,

THE COST :-

LABOUR - £1174.50
FRONT ARCH PANEL £23.40
WING - £74.10
WINDSCREEN REMOVAL/REFIT - £35.00
CAVITY SEALERS - £10.00
PAINTS AND MATERIALS - £268.28

VAT - £268.42

TOTAL - £1862.70

SOUNDS A HELL OF ALOT , BUT , THEY HAD MY VAN FOR TWO WEEKS , ICOULD GO AND SEE IT BEING DONE AND COULD NOT FALT THE QUALITY OF THE WORKMANSHIP ,

END RESULT , VERY HAPPY ,

I COULD OF GONE ELSE WHERE AND GOT THE WORK DONE CHEAPER , BUT I THINK IT IS A CASE OF YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR ,

BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY , IT DOESNT MATTER WHERE YOU GO LABOUR CHARGES ARE THE BULK OF YOUR OUTLAY ,

WOW! You had a lot of work done and your bus looks great for it! I'm pretty sure the arches don't need cutting out, just a rub down and a bit of filler. I could do most of that myself and I have done many times on my older bangers, even done my dad's Sierra a couple of times now and he was happy! I would just like to get a nice professional finish to the job. Rather than a couple of Halfords spray cans!!
