Welding with waxoil

Postby ginsambo » Wed Jul 22, 2009 8:11 pm

Has anybody had any really bad experiences with waxoil flaring up when using the mig?

Basically I need to do a load of plug welds to reunite the top and bottom chassis rails on a chassis cab, due to access it would be far easier and thorough to soak waxoil the inner rail and inner laminate strips first before fixing the rails together, although I won't actually be welding on the waxoil, it will be about an inch away from the plugs - bad idea or you reckon I'II get away with it if the extinguishers on hand?

I would go for it!

On my minor I filled the front X member with a mixture of engine oil, grease and white sprit to about 1cm from the top and then plug welded the top on! Once it cant get any more air the fire will go out

Just make sure that you have a good extinguisher on hand...
