MK1/2 door trunking?

Postby Luke » Sun Jun 11, 2006 7:07 pm

Im gonna fit speakers, electric windows, and central locking to my van 8)

these all need power to them so im gonna run wires to them i think about 7 or 8. what i need to know is has anyone done it using a piece of trunking - the bit if rubber hose thing that goes between the door and the pillar :!: and more importantly - what car did they get it off :?:

i was thinking of using the one off my sierra but it doesnt look like it stretches far enough :(

ive also considered these!

but really i'd prefer it wired without them :!:

nice and easy to get  looks like a trip over to ebay

also one more thing - i'd prefer them to be round at each end so it's easier to drill

Rear trunking off a MK3 Astra Estate, opens easily as wide as a Transit door and round both ends :D

 i'd not thought of estate hatches - just checked out the sierra estate ones and they look better than the door ones but there in a semi perished condition :(

all models of MK5's have trunking on the front doors - should go more or less straight on :D

Yeah the one from an estate (wagon in aus) rear door will work better as they tend to be longer

I havn't put any on my van as yet will do after the c/lock door poppers and new audio is installed
Yeah i know its big green and rusty so move your Porsche before i bash it with 460 cubes of fords finest cast iron

when i fitted elec windows central locking and speakers in my last mk2 i decided not to use tubing, i used the rear loom from a late mk2 morris marina because all the wires are joined together to form a ribbon cable the same width as the hieght of the door hinges, and stikoflexed the loom to the hinge, separating the wires individually where they went into the door hinge pillar, making sure that they were in a position where they wouldnt get trapped as the door opens and closes (i used the hole for the curtasy light switch wire behind the end of the dash in the A pillar)
doing it that way only twists the wires not stretches or bends them too much as the door opens and closes
