Will a IVECO 4cly turbo diesel engine fit in a transit?

Postby turbomat84 » Sun May 24, 2009 2:03 am

Hi my name's Mat

Ive been fixin my transit up for the mot over the past months

A standard M reg swb transit 100

After i finish the spring hangers & chassis/body repairs i want to put a turbo lump in

As the transit units are rare as rockin horse and priced to suit i was looking for a doner engine thats still easy to come by and resonably cheap

Hence i've been looking at IVECO's and other larger turbo diesel 4 cylinder vans/light trucks

My main worry was these engine's might be to large for the transit engine bay

Id like a 200 bhp diesel & i know IVECO units do this standard with a nice 6 speed box + pleanty of room for a tune up :D

Im sure it would raise some eyebrows

Any advice would be great

Ive got pics if anyone's intrested

Cheers
Mat

Welcome :D

Go on then :!: Let's see some pics :D

I presume the engine you are going for is ECU controlled :?:

Not being funny, but it might be worth removing the spotted transit chassis and bolting the floorpan on to a rolling Iveco chassis with some custom c/members. I was thinking about doing that with a transit chassis cab. Donno if the wheelbase will align though. 6mm Iveco C-Section chassis = Less MPG...but.....No Rust! What do you reckon? :?

as far as going back with the transit theres nothing apart from the heater (which can be relocated) behind if your prepaired to cut away the bulkhead almost anything will go in 8)

Just wondering would they fit into a mk2 with the 6 speed with out moddin the bulk head? would you have to mod the gearbox hole in the floor pan? Alot of questions I know.
