Yeah we phoned our insurance and asked if we could remove three seats for luggage space and they said no for two reasons, 1. we'd have to have them removed professionally, and we are not insured to carry luggage in the vehicle.

When we told them we fotted a tow bar they didnt bother, but they are insureing a trailer to be on the road aswell. :?

hi from a newbie i had the same problem with my last transit made it an 8 seater put windows in even told d.v.l.a about seats so changed on log book .spoke to my local garage about it and was told if the seats and belts where fitted by me which they where for insurance and safety reasons have them checked by vosa which i did phoned insurance company and got 300 pound knocked of even though at the same time i put my wife on insurance with a provisional licence ,as for taking seats out of a van insurance will be cheaper if you have logbook changed .hope this helps .

Hi we have purchased a 2007 ford transit with 6 seats the 3 in the back have been installed by a proper company and I have the report showing this, also the log book is showing that it has 6 seats BUT NO ONE will insure us. 8 years no claim bonus any quotes we get are VERY expensive. Any ideas who i could try? Do I need to insure it as a van or a minibus it is going to be used to get to site work nothing else.

this has me thinking...
i saw a listing on ebay for profesionally fitting a seated area in the rear of my transit connect.
they are meant to provide 3 crash tested seats, bulkhead, fabric lining over the roof etc in the new seated section and fitting bonded windows .

was something i was seriously looking at... but no idea how the modification would affect my insurance...
i shouod probably ask a few questions and check with the insurance co.
Its Not a Van..... Its a Transit
