Angel Eye Headlamps - fitting?

Postby thehangmen » Thu May 18, 2006 9:52 pm

Noticed a cable running out of these, no connectors or terminals or plugs connected - what do I do with them?
They appear to be connected to the pair of circles that make up the lens...

if you want the angeleyes to come on when you turn your lights on you need to connect one of the wires to the sidelight wire and one to earth.(usually the colours are red - to sidelights, black - to earth)

Update - success!

Found the best thing was to snip the 4 wires back, insert the ends into the sidelight bulbholder terminals and wedge them in place with the bulb before refitting the bulbholder into the lamp.
Bit fiddly with some trial & error to see if the wires are the right way round but worth it in the end.
A little tip is the two lives or neutrals are paired up at the same end of the bulbholder, ie the thinnest side.
NB: I found this far easier to do before fitting the headlamps!

Sorry no, not too klever in the piccy department.
Basically a straight swap of the lamp units, then add the bulbs but with the sidelights jam the 4 wires coming from each angel-eye unit into the bulb holder at the appropriate corners using the bulb itself! And do that before fitting the units.
Inside the bulb holder are 4 flat metal terminals, 2 on each side. Jam 1 wire behind each terminal then the bulb clamps them in tight. Push the bulbholder back into the headlamp unit and twist to lock. Easy really when you've done it once.
Some instructions or a diagram with the units would've been a real timesaver!

I really don't think that jamming the wires in the side light bulb holders is the way to go, yes it works but it's not right!

Are you taking the P1$$? Scotch locks are probably worse than twisting the wires together!

I agree it's a bit sloppy, but couldn't see another way round it. Tried soldering and even glue but it was too fiddly having to work inside the bulbholder.
Anyone with a bit of sparky suss might want to rewire the bulb-holder and attach the wires directly to the external wiring - but it seems a lot of fuss just to get 2 pretty circles to light up!

so far this year i've had to fix at least 5 cars where the fault was a scotch lock caused problem (they either eventually cut right through the original wire or make a weak connection and get hot and melt)

Point taken, but i have used these before with my car phone kit that was supplied with them, so thought they were a commonly used item and didnt realise the problems they cause, guess i had better take them out and get some piggy back connectors

Now i know why you thought i was taking the piddle Mike
