ICE .... speaker advice to fit in a mk1/2 door

i'm after some door speakers for my cosworth van

what i need is 2 speakers the maximum size in the door ive got for them is 8" height and about 10" across the problem is behind there is the runner for the window and it's 35mm away at the top and 45mm at the btm so the speakers would have to be fairly shallow

i want a decent sound but dont want to go daft (like gurj) if you know what i mean not really sure on budget either

at the moment the head unit i've got is a minidisc sony one, no amp but if necessary i'll fit one in the future and i dont want to be swapping the speakers later

i dont really know much about ICE so any advice welcome

Can you not space them out on a ring of MDF? or would that protrude too much into the van?
How about mounting them in the foot-wells like mine? Any room there?
Any room on top of the dash?

thought it looked a bit tight yeah i might have to space it out if thats what i'd have to do - problem is the seat is there ane they will be close up to it - the other way is to use a smaller speaker

on top of the dash theres no space and the footwells are tight due to the ifs i could proberbly squeeze them in but what you did with yours looks like tooo much work for me

Do you have a door steps like the mk3-5's?
I'm making boxes soon to attach to the bottoms of my doors to hold more speakers,
which, when the door is closed, will sit in the step area.
They will be sloped so that the speakers face up a bit, if you see what I mean.

As a rule for this type of problem my answer has always been the same. If you can't make a speaker fit the door make the door fit the speaker . I've attached a couple of picure to show how. Start by getting the speakers that you want or go and visit a local audio specialist (not halfords) and ask the for there opinion.
rotate the last picture....

I usually start by making a door card blank and the make support rings for the speaker and then use a hot glue gun and some small prop to position the ring .

i'm sure i could make something if i put my hand to it but it's not really my thing i'm more of a mechanical person if i did have a go i'd proberbly never get it done but it has given me an idea i wonder if i can get something like that but allready made i can think of rover metro's have a door speaker in the pocket but i dont know if they would be too long even on the 4 door

yeah they are like the mk3 doors and i know what you mean i dont really want to cut away the door which i think i'd have to do plus i want it to look more 'factory'

try old landrover free landers for pockets they are much better quality tham the metro

Luke i have 6" or 7 " speakers in my doors in the area above right of the window motor, the voice coil magnet and frame is pretty small on a 6" mid rage speaker
