adapting wheels to fit mk 1?

i have a mk1 swb camper and have been wanting to fit some snazzy wheels for a while. idealy i want wolfrace slot mags or brm style (classic vw beetle). i can find ones with five studs, but never the correct spacing. is it safe to get them re-drilled to suit then weld the old holes up? i am assuming it is easier to get existing 5 stud rather than 4 stud? i realise i need to measure the offset and width and all that stuff. any ideas appreciated. karl.

if you have a mk1 or mk2 5 studder the front hubs dont have the indentation the mk3-5's have so you can get those redrilled dead easy - then just have some adapters made up for the back - thats what i'm doing for my mk1

just had mine done for front of mk1 used mk2 hubs had them redrilled to jag chevy pattern theve come out a bit close to the original transit holes but once ive welded them up will be ok (prob be ok with holes in but i just want to weld them for looks). also what ive had done to them is the 5, 17mm bolts that hold the disc to the hub countersunk so i could use countersunk hex bolts leaves plate smooth and dont foul back if wheels ,they cost me £50.00 from a guy in wolverhampton whos got a machine shop.i also treated it to some brand new discs off ebay for £10.00 a pair

must admit their as i collected them i havnt had time to do anythin on van since i started welding m8s capri

it's a shame the later transits dont redrill as easy as the mk1-2s i think we'd be seeing a lot more customised vans

yeah i know the same guy dit the ones for the guy who bought my big wheeled mk 5
dont know exactly how he did them but it was much wider stud pattern on the slot mags off some 4x4
so it mightve missed the recessed part of the hub flange

now its come to a head with the local authority about the vans these are for sale if their any good to anyone theres the 2 hubs i paid £50 to have drilled and 2 brand new solid discs if it helps anyone out they can have em for £50 plus postage (better if you can collect due to weight )
