Any good V8 conversion threads or info please?

Hi all,
Been looking into the LEZ in London next year. Bummer eh? I've got 8 months to either get rid of my 190 (which I love to bits) or convert it to a compliant engine? Do I fit a later type diesel or a petrol? I'm swaying towards petrol with LPG as LPG is half the price of petrol here in France.
My mate here in France is a Land Rover/Range Rover specialist, repairs, servicing, new and used parts etc etc.... See where I'm going?......
So, I'm looking for some good info on what's involved in slotting in a V8. Ideally we're looking at a carbs/dizzy with a manual box. Want to keep it as simple as possible like my 76ps diesel that's already in it.
Had a go on search but v8 keeps getting ignored and conversion keeps throwing up campers.

firstly you havnt said what mk your van is there was a mk6 on ebay recently with a rover in it looked realy well built , if its a mk5 theres plenty of v8 conversions around using rover v8s and a few using yank set ups . so ill asume we are talking about mk5 your m8s a range rover specialist ask him to locate a di conversion plate for a range rover as their were plenty of these conversions done which converted the range rover box to the di engine
.should work the other way round converting the v8 to the mt75 bell housing keeping the gearbox prop and axle then all you have to do is fabricate some mountings for the engine ,sort exhaust and rad not a 5 minute job but easier than full transplant ,ive seen this done and works quite well .only down side conversion plate is quite expensive as they get stupid prices for them on ebay (but once you have one get a engineering shap to copy and sell a few to recoup costs of your original conversion)

As long as its got that V8 burble and I can get into London after January 2012, I'll be a happy man.
An LPG kit will also keep fuel costs down to somewhere near reasonable too I hope?

ive had my vans on lpg for last few years must say its worth getting done im gonna put v8 or v6 in my mk 1 eventually purely the exhausts i bought need a v engine to sound propper ,my 2,0 pinto in now is already on lpg

Yeah, get him round here when I drop the motor in the van, no need for a hoist.
I searched Google and it came up with results on this forum that I couldn't find using the forum search

Update....
I've know a chap who deals in Land Rover and Range Rover stuff. He's got a stall at Billing this weekend and rang me today. There is another stall holder who has a VERY complete 3.9 fuel injected V8 for sale. All ancillaries manifold and downpipes etc. My mate is going to keep an eye on it over the weekend and see if he can have a deal on my behalf. Fingers crossed eh?
He tells me this version of the V8 has a simpler fuel injection so is dead easy to install as there is no engine management etc to give me un-necessary headaches. Does that sound right?
Big question.... If I do as Pat says and keep the MT75 box, which does sound like the easier route, what do I do about the input shaft into the gearbox? Is there an adaptor to go from Rover V8 to Ford 5 speed? Obviously I'll be looking at buying an adaptor plate for the conversion.
