Fitting triple seat in rear Mk6 LWB

Hi, New to the forum & looking for some advice!

I've just got an 02' Mk6 350 LWB High Roof and have just got my hands on a nice triple bench with integral belts from an 02' Mk6 minibus so it matches the front. I'll be fitting it forward facing & have a basic idea of the extra measures that need to be taken in order to make sure it's safe.

The seats themselves have spreader plates as part of the design, so it is my understanding that all that needs to be done is to fit (perhaps weld?) equally big spreader plates under the van so that the weight is equally distributed on both sides, then drill through & bolt them in.

Ideally I'd like to install quick release fittings so I have the option of removing the seats when not required. Anyone know a cheap way of doing this, or where to get suitable fittings?

Has anyone else done anything similar? Photos would be great! I've searched a few times, but perhaps i've missed a good one!

If you intend to remove the seats you'll need to weld the spreader plates to the underside of the van and also the nuts to the plates. At least this will make "undoing" the bolts easier. You'll also need hi tensile nuts and bolts.

I'm in the process of putting the same in mine. I have a local steel engineering business who is going to make me some spreader plates for the underside. The central portion will be one large plate that from memory accomodates the four central bolts. The outer bolt plates will prob be individual.

I'll get some pics next week hopefully as I progress . My trade insurance is happy that the extra seats are going in as they are genuine Ford seats ( and the log book will be changed to show 6 seats) that have already been tested etc. also I'll be sending it to my local mot centre for them to check it over.

JLS Security: for the large spreader plate have you drawn up a template for this?
What thickness of steel are you looking at? also are you having it manufactured to fit in line with the ridges in the floor of the van or will there be gaps where these are?

Terry: The unwin tracking system looks good, however I think the rails & fittings themselves are quite expensive. It'd be a case of fitting similar spreader plates underneath the van I'd imagine as the rails are usually fitted as part of a bonded floor so there's unlikely to be any fittings unwin would supply.

The spreader plates are 6mm steel. I have got them being made so they fit up to the chassis sections underneath. Massive overkill but more in this case is better.

Once I get them fitted I'll spot weld them to the underside and then underseal the lot.

JLS Security: Just seen your post with your van as it is now. Looks very nice! Did you get any pictures of the seat fittings/spreader plates? Hopefully going to fit mine this week
