BMW 3.5 straight six

Postby Gromit » Sun Nov 19, 2006 7:47 pm

Just pondering a few ideas and was wondering would a BMW 3.5ltr straight six fit in a transit. Would probably keep the original gearbox for ease, so has anyone got any ideas.

:)

i think a tape measure would be a good tool to have for that one  strait 6 will be 2cyls longer that the longest engine fitted as standard and pushing it back might pose a gearstick problem :?

interesting one tho 8) ........... out of interest whats so good about the engine :?:

Cheap, reliable and fairly powerful.

The problem with it being longer had occured to me but i remember reading somewhere that the straight six wasnt that much longer than the BMW 4-pot. Also if memory serves me right, they only need about 3 wires hooking up to them to make them run. But if anyone knows otherwise.

Your best bet for that part will be a BMW forum.

The head/manifolds are extremely wide :!: And when that cam starts rattling, it's a nightmare of a job

Pulling power and economy are fantastic :!: :D :D :D and if you use the running gear it was under 2000rpm@70mph  :D

Defo need a tape measure like luke says

it is a fair bit longer than the four cylinder - probably about a foot longer - plenty of torque and horsepower though - and no blower needed
