another wheel question...noob

OK, I've bought a set of nice land rover steelies 2nd hand from flea bay and the plan is to drill them myself. No stranger to a bit of work, however I only have a transit two weeks now and haven't fiddled enough around yet. Anyway, after reading nearly very article on wheels and jigs my question wasn't answered (that might keep the search function police off my back ) but can I take a hub off my mk6 5stud (or even get one from the scrappy) knock the studs out, fit to the back of the wheel (somehow) and drill from there. Does this make sense ? Did i cure a lot of topics about wellers or am I missing something important that makes me look sillies?

Since no one else has come forward, I'll give you the bad news. It seems like a logical solution to use a hub as a drilling jig but unless you can do it to a very fine accuracy you will be asking for wheel wobble and end up with a set of expensive door stops. Take them to an engineering workshop and get them to do it. They will get the new holes drilled correctly aligned and the holes finished to the correct chamfer angle so your wheel nuts don't come loose.

Or buy a jig from darkbluevanman.

Still got a couple left, posted the last one for love I think!! seeing as they're 6mm they are over a kilo!... bloody rip off post office!

Thanks but I think postage to Ireland would be a bit pricey, I'll let an engineering place tackle it, I'll give them the set and my spare wheel to work off. Will start a progress thread when I get them sorted
