MK6 Seat Conversion. GIZACLUE !

Postby SNOWDOG » Mon Apr 16, 2012 2:12 pm

Hi all, i have volvo s40 driver and passenger seats to swap with my cab seats (driver and double passenger ) Hoping some of you with experience could talk me through the process, im ok with ripping stuff out, but usually find bits during rebuilds i maybe should'nt have hacksawed/hammered !! I know its a bit basic , but i've the patience of a wasp up a trouser leg  , and dont want to end up with no seats !! So hows about an idiots guide how best to tackle this one. 8)
Look forward to your advice. Cheers :D

Hi Snowdog
Looks like you are going to have to go it alone. I have put Scorpio seats in mine,, others have put Saab seats in, but unless someone has actually done the exact same seats as you, they won't know either.
My only 'common sense' comment is, if you want to keep the Volvo adjusters e.t.c., then you will need to dump the Transit ones and go to just the pedestal & adapt the Volvo ones to that. If you MAY want swivellers do it now.You will probably find you'll have to swap the passengers side pedestal for a single to start with.
Go To it & take plenty of pics (everyone on here LOVES pics :D ).
Good luck

Terry, thanks for the response. Yes i like pics too, thats what i was hoping for in an idiots guide kinda way !!
was interested you mentioned adjusters and pedestals  :?
the plan was to remove the driver seat And rails , see if the transit rails fit the volvo seat then bolt back on ? :?
if not, then use All the volvo bits, and adjust if needed, to fit the transit pedestal (over the battery)
with the passenger side, i figure the whole lot would have to come off at the floor? then get a new pedestal made up for the single volvo seat ? :? Would like a swivel on this one, though cant afford one at the mo ( mind, my brain is swivelling )
So, would i have to make allowances in any new base to accommodate one? or were you suggesting doing it now just to blitz the lot in one go ??
Hope you dont mind all the questions. just like to talk it through before making a start .
hopefully some others might chip in too with ideas before next week, and i Will take Pics :)
Cheers again

Hi SD
You would be exceptionally lucky to have the Volvo & Transit adjusters so similar that they would be usable together. I would check to see which would be better/preferable to use and you'll just have to make up what you need from there. I haven't actually seen a dual seat pedestal (mine came with a single), so can't help on that front. The reason I suggest fitting a swivel now is just so you don't do the same job twice. The Scorpio seats are all electric & I opted to keep the all electric, only to find the motors hang down enough to prevent me fitting a swivel plate
Have fun

Cant believe it was april when i started this, but everything comes to he who waits
Anyway, got the job sussed, have cut off the volvo brackets, got hold of a driver seat base, just need to weld new brackets to seat runners then bolt to base's.
The Question i have is, Are all seat belts compatible ?? the transit buckle fits and 'Appears' to lock into the volvo one attatched to the seat, but is it Locked and Safe ? :?
I realise its just a case of swapping bits over, but hey if i dont have to 8) 8)
