wheels for my baby

Postby handbrakeone » Sat Mar 12, 2005 7:28 pm

 hi all. i'm looking for a set of metal feet so my baby can run free. a reasonably priced set of wheels are what she needs. i also could do with a td engine as my commercial insurance will not let me change to petrol! so, seats s/wheel,td engine+box, wheels, and anything of interest you may have! check my feedback on ebay to see i'm not a total muppet! "handbrakeone" cheers steve....97 mk5 transit80

hi mate , wheels are a tricky one there is not many options here, you could fit the alloys from a glx torneo minibus i have that type on my van see gallary , they do some 15in type not shure what they are called ,or the only other way is to have some adaptors made to fit difrent type of alloys ie 17 bmw but i think the adaptors are expensive

the td side of thing is very hard the only way is to find a complete van with all the loom ecu etc everything is difrent even the tickover is controled by the ecu it would be alot of work to sort out ! hope this helps you .mark :)

Wheels! hmmm ive been over this one a few times im looking for a set for my mk1! im after 16" old style so the only way for me is to either re-drill the hubs or fit adapter plates, ive been to a local machine shop which i use through my work and they could make me some about £30 each but if i bought more the price would come down!! the problem i have is all the wheels i like have too much of an offset to fit in with the adapters. but if you went for a more modern style, like mark says 17" bmw, if there off a 3 series they'd fit easy! and i presume being an ebayer youve seen the aftermarket transit sets on there - nice but expensive! :D

yeah mate ive done some drawings! but they differ slightly for each set of wheels, if i remember the thinnest i could get them was 20 or 25mm?? but mine had the boss to fit the transit front and the boss to suit the new wheels aswell. my drawings are for bmw 5 x 120mm pcd (all transits are 5 x 160mm pcd)
i was gonna get a set of wheels and make the adapters as wide as possable to fill the arches!! but obviously you'd need the exact wheel to do that!
What wheels did you have in mind?
also the thing that stops you going too wide isnt the wheel arch its the sliding door!

Ford themselves did do alloys for the transit, but styles were limited.

As mentioned, there are alloys made for the torneo, but im not personally fussed on the style.

Ford also made a 5 stud transit varient of the RS 7 spoke alloy as found on the XR model sierras. They are still listed on Mic****t (ahem) - so it might be worth a chat with your local parts man to check availability.

Dont expect them to be cheap tho.

hi. i would only go as far as the wheel arches for width as i will be using van for work and do not want to go over the top and i need to use the side door.( tho i do want to!) wheels i had in mind were what i can get that will carry a bit weight. 17" tires i can get for free so i'd like 17's, make does not matter. what drawings are available? and for what wheels. if there are some deffo suggestions i can start looking. thanks steve

Possible swap to granada/scorpio hubs ?

that would open a whole world of alloys to you - ford and jag to name but two..

17" tires i can get for free
 ill have some mate!!
but seriously what wheels did you have in mind??

also on a more law obiding note, if your using the van fully loaded you may get into bother with the traffic police regarding using non-commercial tyres :( i'd have thought the adapters will be fine tho!
Im ok (probly) with my van cos its done working for a living! and now the heavyest thing she will be carrying is a few mountain bikes!
Its just worth thinking about before you go to all the expense!!
Ill gets some drawings of the adapters i designed scanned in and on the site!!

Just how heavy is your radio???? :D Or is your entire loadspace taken up with concert speakers (not beyond the realms of possibilities).....
