Twins on MK3

Postby AlanN » Wed Feb 25, 2009 1:04 pm

Has anyone seen twin headlights on a MK3? Its something I have been looking into, but it means doing away with the indicator...
The MK4/5 headlamps are much wider and I dont want to cut the bonnet to fit the ccm type.

Ahhh! Im glad your on here chunkychap, I was going to ask your advice on this one, never used fibreglass for moulding before....
Looks like Im going to use BMW e30 lamps and brackets, as the lights are stepped one in front of the other at an angle that is similar to the van body and move the indicator to the bumper or as Luke says, LED strip.

I was going to use the old headlights as part of the moulding...

Edit: "Matt says" not Luke....

Bmw e30 lights are 5 3/4 inches which are a very tight fit within any transit shape head light. what you realy need is either a 5 or 4 1/2 inch light unit which only come in sealed beam units hoo hum.
Golf inner light units are only good for being main beam and won't pass MOT test for dipped beam. There are a few options if your willing to pay for it. I tryed a few from ebay dominator twin bike lights but only give a flat beam pattern which not all MOT testers are happy with but it's a grey area. you can get round this by tilting the unit to the left. Capri lights are an option but again it's getting hold of the buggers in the first place.
I've put all my head light ideas on hold for a while as I've lost a job and gained a busness which means the development has been mothballed.

Top tip YOU CAN NOT EVER USE TO MUCH RELAESE AGENT WITH FIBRE GLASS MOULDS!!!!!!

At the moment, eveything I have tried, means removing the indicator (fit one in the bumper) I started with the Capri bracket, as I know e30's can be made to fit, but they are to flat to the front of the van... Thats why I going to try the BMW ones... Im also looking at peugot projectors, but nothing secondhand or cheap enough just to play with.
